A rare and expressive antique Chinese ceramic plate, hand-painted in underglaze blue, green, and iron brown, dating to the early 19th century (ca. 1800) during the Qing Dynasty.
The plate features a striking central image of a fish surrounded by water plants — a traditional symbol of abundance, fertility, and prosperity in Chinese art. The rustic folk-style brushwork and vibrant mineral pigments are characteristic of regional ceramics from southern China, likely from the Jingdezhen kilns or nearby provinces.
The border displays a combination of undulating lines and concentric brushstrokes, all rendered with confident hand-painting. The foot shows heavy wheel marks, and the base bears a red wax seal from a French private gallery, confirming its provenance as a European collector’s item.
A true collector’s piece, ideal for antique lovers, Asian art enthusiasts, or those who appreciate the wabi-sabi beauty of aged ceramics.
