A magnificent and rare antique Chinese porcelain plate dating to the early 19th century, during the Qing Dynasty (ca. 1800–1830).
This large 27.7 cm plate features a powerful central depiction of a Qilin – a mythical creature symbolizing strength, virtue, and protection. The Qilin is hand-painted in deep cobalt blue with fine details in iron-brown and soft manganese tones. The creature clutches a sacred ribboned sphere, associated with imperial power and cosmic unity.
The border is composed of rhythmic blue brushstrokes, typical of provincial Qing workmanship. Above the beast appears the single character 永 (Yǒng), meaning “eternity” — a highly auspicious mark.
The reverse side bears traditional metal staple repairs, a sign of valued preservation, and a red wax seal from a French private gallery — attesting to its European provenance and collectibility.
