A true collector’s gem — this rare antique Japanese wall pocket vase is an exquisite example of Meiji-era craftsmanship, combining refined artistic vision with the enduring beauty of wabi-sabi aesthetics.

Created in the late 19th or early 20th century, this hand-painted ceramic piece depicts a serene scene of a bird nestled among delicate red flowers and foliage, brought to life through expressive brushstrokes and rich mineral pigments.

The surface is finished with an elegant crackle glaze, naturally developed over time, lending the piece a deeply poetic, time-worn character that only age can bestow. The form is graceful and curved, designed with three functional holes — two for hanging and one at the base, possibly for drainage. The back features a traditional Japanese-style mark, suggesting a small artisan kiln origin during the Meiji period (circa 1880–1910).

Why this piece stands out:

  • Authentic Meiji-era artifact (c. 1880–1910)
  • Hand-painted with incredible detail and vibrant natural pigments
  • Rare wall-mounted form, functional yet deeply decorative
  • Original crackle glaze (not reproduction), reflecting genuine age and character
  • Wabi-sabi perfection – asymmetry, patina, and serenity in balance
  • Collector-worthy – a striking addition to Japanese or world ceramic collections
