A rare and museum-worthy ceramic footed vase by Jules Vieillard & Cie, Bordeaux, dating from circa 1778–1880. This exceptional piece is hand-painted in the Asian (Japonisme) style, depicting a vibrant scene of a bird flying above lotus flowers and reeds, surrounded by delicate cherry blossoms.
The glaze has developed a beautiful crazing (crackle effect) over time, adding character and authenticity.
The vase rests on three sculptural feet highlighted in black and gilt, creating a striking contrast. The underside bears a cartouche signature attributed to Eugène Millet, a prominent artist associated with the Jules Vieillard manufactory.
This exact model — or a very similar version — is held in the collection of the Victoria Museum in Melbourne, Australia, confirming the rarity and cultural significance of this object.
- Condition: Antique wear consistent with age: chips on the rim, enamel losses, and surface crazing.
- Dimensions: Diameter 22.5 cm × Height 7 cm
A perfect acquisition for connoisseurs of French ceramics, Japonisme, or museum-quality 19th-century art pottery.
